We didn't start a gear company to build a catalog. We started it to build one thing that doesn't compromise — a load-bearing tool made from materials that outlast the trends, the seasons, and the trips.

Nothing unnecessary.
Nothing missing.

01
1680D Sailcloth Nylon
The same material used in commercial rigging and marine sails. Abrasion-resistant, field-repairable, and built to age slowly. Costs 3x more than standard pack fabric.
02
Thermoformed Framesheet
HDPE framesheet with load-lifter geometry tuned for 30–40 lb carries. Not a generic insert — a load-specific structure that puts the weight where your body can handle it.
03
Single Compartment
One main compartment with one internal divider. No over-organization, no gimmick pockets, no features that earn their place in focus groups instead of on trail.
04
YKK AquaGuard Zippers
Water-resistant zippers throughout. No rain cover needed, no fumbling with covers in a downpour. The pack handles weather the way your shelter does — quietly.
05
Lifetime Warranty
No receipt. No proof of purchase. No questions about how it happened. If it fails, we fix it or replace it. We can afford to because the failure rate is near zero.
06
45 Liters
Sized for 3–5 day backcountry trips. Compresses cleanly when half-empty without losing frame geometry. Carries 35 lbs comfortably over rough terrain for days.

What sailcloth nylon actually means

Most packs use 500D or 1000D Cordura. It's fine. It works. It wears out.

1680D sailcloth nylon is built for sustained load, abrasion, and UV exposure in conditions that would shred standard pack fabric in a season. We didn't over-engineer this. We just didn't cut the corners most companies cut.

The result is a pack body that ages the way good gear should — slowly, and with character.

It costs us 3x more than the industry standard.

We use it anyway.

The Basecamp is designed to be the last pack you buy. Not because we say so — because the materials make it true.

Single-SKU focus means all R&D and QC resources go into one product, not a catalog. Every dollar we save on marketing goes into materials.

People who carry the Basecamp

I've gone through four packs in twenty years. This is the first one I think I'll still have in another twenty.

David K.

Bozeman, MT · 22 years backcountry experience

No wasted pockets. No dangling straps. It carries weight the way a pack should — you stop thinking about it by mile two.

Margaret T.

Keene, NY · Adirondack 46er, section hiker

My buddy handed me his at the trailhead and said 'just try it.' I ordered mine from the parking lot at the end of the trip.

James R.

Bend, OR · Annual Wind River Range trips since 2008

The zipper thing sold me. Every pack I've owned, the zippers go first. AquaGuard throughout is a decision I respect.

Simple.

$385 is a lot for a pack. We know that.

Here's how we think about it.

  • Lifetime coverage, no expiration
  • No receipt or proof of purchase required
  • No questions about how the damage happened
  • Zipper fails in year eight — we fix it
  • Strap tears in year twelve — we replace the pack
Cost per trip
$120 pack, replaced every 3 years ~$8/trip
$200 pack, replaced every 5 years ~$7/trip
Basecamp 45L, 15 years ~$5/trip
